FPN is hosting a team to participate in the Chicago Triathon. Enouraged by a patient who wants to raise funds for PN research, we are helping him build a team to compete with him and his friends. There are both sprint and international distances available for participation. If you can't compete, maybe someone will participate in your honor. Or, there are other ways you can help! PN Resource Workshops

Are you interested in joining a resource workshop  with other Peripheral Neuropathy patients? There are PN Resource Workshops being held on the Northwestern campus, Chicago, on the 3rd Friday of every month. Suggestions for topics would be welcome so these forums will address issues that are important to you. Check the box to the right to find the location and times. Peripheral Neuropathies: New Strategies for Patient Care

Presenter: Senda Ajroud-Driss, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Neurology, Northwestern University, Chicago

Dr. Driss presented an overview of peripheral neuropathy and familiarized the audience with the different types of neuropathies, including chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, with particular emphasis on the treatable and non-treatable neuropathies. She explained the role of the multidisciplinary clinic and the role of research in taking care of patients with peripheral neuropathies. Dr. Driss is the MD coordinator for The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy Comprehensive Care Clinic which was established in 2008 through funding from FPN.

Physical and Occupational Therapy Interventions for Cancer Induced Peripheral Neuropathy

Presenter: Vicki Tysseling-Mattiace, PhD, PT, Postdoctoral fellow in the Physiology Department of Northwestern University, Chicago

Ms. Mattiace-Tysseling, a physical and occupational therapist, discussed the challenges of balance and exercise for those struggling with PN. She demonstrated various exercises and talked about how to structure an exercise program. Her focus was on general exercise, muscle cramping, and the difficulty of accomplishing daily activities. Ms. Tysseling-Mattiace provides physical therapy services to patients at the FPN Peripheral Neuropathy Clinc at Northwestern and the Rehabiliation Institute of Chicago..

April 14, Diabetes expo, chicago

Many of you attended the Expo and took advantage of the free health screenings, cooking demonstrations, product and service exhibitors, and experts talking about diabetes managements and prevention - and the complications of diabetes. We were glad some of you stopped by; it was also nice to meet some of you who already receive and enjoy our educational and awareness materials.

Innovative Therapies for Peripheral Neuropathies: The Present & The Future

National and international clinicians and investigators from both basic and clinical research will gather at the JW Marriott, Chicago, to discuss challenges in peripheral neuropathy reserach and to outline the future direction for innovative therapies.

Aches and Gains

Dr. David Cornblath, a neurologist at Johns Hopkins and a board member at FPN, was interviewed by Dr. Paul Christo on his show, Aches and Gains. In the episode, The Mystery of Chronic inflammatory Demylinating Polyneuropathy, Dr. Cornblath explains how it attacks the nervous system and can cause painful symptoms, numbness and weakness.
