α-Synuclein in Cutaneous Autonomic Nerves

This goal of this study was to develop cutaneous biomarkers for PD. Twenty patients with distal sensory and autonomic neuropathy underwent examinations, autonomic testing, and skin biopsies to measure α-Synuclein density within the epidermis, and nerve fibers that stimulate the sweat glands (sudomotor) and ‘move the hair’ – gooseflesh (pilomotor).
