Obstructive Sleep Apnea is Associated with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

A new UK study, published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine shows that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is independently linked to diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in patients with Type 2 diabetes. In their observational, cross-sectional study, Dr. Abd Tahrani, clinical lecturer in diabetes and endocrinology at the UK’s University of Birmingham, and his team found that OSA was associated with increased oxidative stress and impaired microvascular blood flow regulation, which could explain the relationship between OSA and DPN.  READ MORE [1] from Medical News Today or READ MORE [2] from WebMD
