Breakthrough Research in Treatments for Chronic Pain

An international research team led by Boston Children’s Hospital, released findings on June 17, 2015, in the journal Neuron that describes a breakthrough in treating chronic pain. Drawing from human pain genetics, their research demonstrates a way to break the cycle of pain hypersensitivity without the development of addiction, tolerance or side effects. In a “reverse engineering” approach the report states that “our data illustrate how one can utilize human genetics to discover a pathway involved in a disease and then through pre-clinical mechanistic studies identify and target the most suitable member of that pathway for drug development.” The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy is proud to be among the financial supports of this exciting research.  READ MORE [1]
