Stem Cell Study for CIDP

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a disease believed to be caused by immune cells that attack the body instead of protecting it. As a result, the affected nerves fail to respond to stimuli and cause symptoms of numbness, tingling, pain and progressive muscle weakness.

Currently, a study at Northwestern University is looking at treating CIDP with a multifaceted approach, including a drug, a protein, and stem cells to stop the progression of CIDP. The purpose of the stem cell infusion is to evaluate whether this treatment will produce a normal immune system that will no longer attack the body.
