Long before gastrointestinal symptoms of gluten intolerance begin, neurological damage may already be done. The Gluten Free Society calls gluten a ‘potential neurotoxin’ and gluten damage can range from dizziness to numbness in the hands and feet. Approximately 10% of people with Celiac disease develop neurological symptoms. Gluten neuropathy is characterized by nerve damage to the peripheral nerves. A study published in Muscle & Nerve in Dec. 2006, found that patients who followed a gluten-free diet showed improvements in their symptoms after one year. READ MORE
