The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy (FPN) is delighted to announce that Sandra Rieger, PhD, has joined the Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). The SAB advises both the Board of Directors and staff of the Foundation in areas of science and technology relevant to peripheral neuropathy and its research.
Dr. Sandra Rieger earned a Ph.D. in Developmental Genetics from the Helmholtz Center Munich in affiliation with the Technical University Munich in Germany. She pursued her postdoctoral research at the University of California, Los Angeles where she focused on the role of epidermal reactive oxygen species in cutaneous sensory axon regeneration. Dr. Rieger is currently an associate professor at the University of Miami, where she continues to study reactive oxygen species mechanisms with a focus on their role in peripheral neuropathy. Her team is particularly interested in chemotherapy (Taxol)-induced and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Additionally, Dr. Rieger co-founded Avantyx, an academic spin-off company, to develop small molecule drugs for the treatment of peripheral neuropathy.
Dr. Rieger’s expertise and passion for research in the field of PN will be an enormous asset to the SAB and the Foundation. Please join us in welcoming her to our scientific team!
