New Board Member, George Montague: Helping People Live Healthier Lives
Meet George Montague, Treasurer, Board of Directors at the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy
We’re excited to welcome George Montague to our board of directors. Montague has worked in the healthcare field for many years and knows a lot about how to run companies. Now, he wants to use that knowledge to help people living with peripheral neuropathy.
About George Montague
Montague has spent much of his career in the medical technology industry. He worked as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for several companies, including big groups at Medtronic. He helped bring new treatments to patients, like insulin pumps, glucose monitors, and therapies that use deep brain stimulation. “I consider myself incredibly fortunate,” he says. “Through these roles, I’ve helped bring therapies to patients that truly change lives.”
Even in college, Montague was already combining his interests in healthcare and finance. He worked in the finance department at a veterans hospital. That job helped him see how he could make a difference in people’s lives through his work. “Being able to build a career helping people live longer, healthier lives has been truly rewarding,” he says.
Joining the FPN Board
His interest in FPN comes from both personal and professional experiences. Several of his family members have peripheral neuropathy, and he also saw the condition through his work in diabetes and neuromodulation. “I joined the FPN Board because I want to be part of the solution in understanding, treating, and ultimately curing peripheral neuropathy,” he says.
Montague’s Goals for FPN
As the new Treasurer, Montague will help FPN manage its money and plan for the future. He wants to make sure the Foundation uses its resources wisely. “[The Foundation] has grown in recent years, and I want to help sustain that momentum so we can expand our impact,” he says.
Montague also wants to help FPN work with other organizations, researchers, and businesses. His goal is for FPN to be seen as a leader in helping patients, supporting research, and speaking up for better care and funding. He says, “I look forward to applying my finance experience to help the organization ensure it has effective and efficient governance and stewardship so that donors know their contributions are being well utilized.”
More about Montague
Outside of work, Montague loves to travel—he has flown nearly three million miles! He and his wife also enjoy visiting museums and volunteer together at the Smithsonian Institution and the National Gallery.
When asked if he has a favorite quote or life motto, he shares one that he often tells his kids and team: “Do your best.”
We’re happy to have George Montague join our organization. His experience, passion, and kind heart will help FPN grow and help more people with peripheral neuropathy.
