Peripheral Neuropathy is Again an Eligible Condition for DOD Grants

Last week, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations released the Majority’s draft of the fiscal year 2022 (FY22) Defense Appropriations Act. The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy is pleased to see that this draft legislation once again includes “peripheral neuropathy” among the eligible conditions for grants in FY22 from the Department of Defense’s Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP)!

It is important to note that this legislation is only a “draft” at this stage and does not represent the position of the Minority (Republican) members of the Senate Committee on Appropriations. Nevertheless it represents an important step in the process as Congress continues to negotiate a final FY22 spending package. Most likely, an overall spending agreement will not be reached until December. In the meantime, the Foundation will continue to work with our legislative consultant and Senate contacts to help ensure that this designation is protected and included in the final bill.

Updates on Current 2021 Funding

FPN also continues to monitor the progress of the PRMRP Board in reviewing and approving PN research projects from the FY 2021 Funding. As soon as we learn the results, we will let our members know the outcome of our first year of being included in this important program.

Thank you all for your continued interest in support in making this funding possible!
