The Future of Neuropathy Research.

NIH Highlighted Topic: Advancing Toward a Cure for Acquired Neuropathy

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is encouraging research aimed at developing disease-modifying treatments for neuropathies caused by conditions like diabetes, cancer therapies, inflammation, and autoimmune diseases. Priority areas include biomarker discovery, improved clinical outcome measures, and regenerative or neuroprotective therapies that can halt or reverse nerve damage.

This announcement aligns with FPN’s recent call for greater federal investment and coordination in peripheral neuropathy research, which advocates for a more unified NIH strategy to accelerate treatment development and improve outcomes for the millions affected by neuropathy.

Gregory Maassen

One Rider’s Journey to Spread Hope and Awareness for PN

After being diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, former FPN Board member Gregory Maassen embarked on a cross-country journey in 2022, riding an electric bike from Washington, DC, to San Francisco, CA, to raise awareness about the condition. Now, he’s taken on a new challenge—cycling from West Palm Beach, FL, to Los Angeles, CA—to continue spreading awareness and inspiring others affected by neuropathy.

His journeys help educate people about neuropathy, inspire others to stay active, and raise money for research and support programs.
