PN Patient Profile: Meet Dieter
In “Running Through the Pain: Finding Strength in the Face of Polyneuropathy,” Dieter R. shares his journey of resilience, from the tragedy of the 2013 Boston Marathon to his own battle with polyneuropathy.
Despite the pain and uncertainty, Dieter’s determination to keep running—culminating in his triumphant finish at the 2024 Chicago Marathon—offers an inspiring reminder that hope and perseverance can propel us forward, no matter the obstacles we face.

On October 15, 2024, our first annual Neuropathy Day of Giving raised approximately $13,000 in support of our mission. Thank you to all the donors who joined in the event this year.

FPN Webinar: Navigating Sleep with PN
Please join us on Friday, November 15, at 3pm ET in welcoming guest speaker, Brandon R. Peters, M.D., FAASM, who will discuss the relationship between peripheral neuropathy, pain, and sleep.
During this program, we will learn about some of the most commonly used medications that may aid pain and sleep. Additionally, Dr. Peters will touch on restless legs syndrome and periodic limb movements of sleep and how these conditions connect to both PN and sleep disruptions.

With insights from medical experts and research into potential therapies, the piece highlights both the complexities and the critical importance of managing and understanding this challenging condition.

Diabetic PN and Dry Eye Disease
People with type 2 diabetes who have worsening peripheral neuropathy—a condition where nerve damage causes numbness, tingling, or pain in areas like the feet and hands—are at higher risk of developing dry eye disease. The researchers found that as nerve damage gets worse, tear production decreases, possibly because the damaged nerves can’t signal the eyes to stay properly lubricated, leading to dryness and discomfort.
