The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy (FPN) is continuing its campaign to make funding available for research on peripheral neuropathy.
FPN was pleased to see the action taken by Congress to designate “peripheral neuropathy” as a condition eligible for research funding from the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) for 2021. We are taking steps to broadcast the availability of funds to the peripheral neuropathy scientific community at large. We are also hosting events to educate the scientific community on how to apply for the funds.
But we can’t stop there.
Our voices need to continue to be heard. Senate needs to fully understands the importance of funding research for peripheral neuropathy. We need to ensure that peripheral neuropathy stays in the plans for the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program as an eligible condition.
What is the Peer-Reviewed Medical Research Program?
Every year, Congress designates dozens of specific conditions to be eligible for research dollars from the $370 million PRMRP. In 2021, Congress included peripheral neuropathy as a PRMRP research topic for the first time. Thanks to a national advocacy program initiated by the Foundation and carried forth by our friends and constituents, Congress took an interest in the disorder, particularly as it relates to members of the Armed Services and veterans. Congress approved peripheral neuropathy as an eligible condition for funding for the first time under this important research program!
What is FPN’s 2021 Advocacy Plan?
For 2021, we are continuing our efforts to build awareness in both the Senate and the House of Representatives of the importance of funding research on peripheral neuropathy. Through this awareness, we hope to keep PN on that important list of of disorders and conditions eligible for research funding under the Department of Defense’s Peer-Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP).
How can you help?
We are asking you to help us keep up the dialogue with your senators and representatives in Washington, D.C., in order to pave the way for more funding for research on peripheral neuropathy.
